Spring is when my new year begins. It’s a serene and reflective time when I’m not jetting antihistamine spray up my nostrils. I’m working harder than ever, journaling, and drinking as much water as I can take. Last year my highs were high and my lows full of wonderful lessons. For instance, I made it 22 miles into a hot marathon this past November before my limbs began to go numb from prolonged dehydration (will spare you the rest of the details). The mile 22 medical staff pumped 2 liters of IV fluid into me before I was cleared to be helped away. I’m blessed with wonderful friends and family who patiently support all the ridiculous goals I set for myself, and have never felt more loved or in line with my purpose.
A bit more about the lessons I mentioned: When you train to run a marathon and start a demanding side hustle in addition to an already rigorous full-time job, you have to have a resoundingly clear internal understanding of why you’re doing what you’re doing. That understanding is between me, myself, and I, but I do aim to share what I can when I can with you all. When I recommend a piece of fiction, it’s because I drew something valuable from it at some point in my life. When I share something I wrote, it’s with the hope that you find lasting value in it. I hope this open letter finds you in a good reading groove. Here’s to more growth in 2023 and beyond.
